Araneta Group Chairman, President, and CEO Jorge L. Araneta has been named by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association as its Most Distinguished Alumnus for 2026. The award was presented on August 15 during the annual Alumni Awards ceremony at Ang Bahay ng Alumni of the University of the Philippines, Diliman.

The award, the highest recognition conferred by the University of the Philippines Alumni Association, honors Araneta’s exceptional leadership, service, and notable contributions to the Philippine real estate sector.

Since taking over the family enterprise in 1972, Jorge Araneta continued the legacy and visionary foundations laid by his father, J. Amado Araneta, and formed a dynamic and modern business group. He spearheaded the transformation and redevelopment of Araneta City (then known as Araneta Center) in Quezon City - from the country's pioneering mixed-use commercial district to a modern multi-use hub for trade, transportation, culture, leisure, and entertainment.

Through decades of strategic investments and innovation, Araneta City stands today as one of the country's premier integrated urban developments that have become integral to the lives of millions of Filipinos. A firm believer in Filipino talent and entrepreneurship, Araneta has championed business practices anchored in excellence, integrity, and service. His leadership has enabled the Group to remain relevant and resilient across generations while preserving its commitment to inclusive community-building.

“I would like to share this recognition with my father, whose courage and imagination gave birth to the vision. I also share this award with my entire family and with the many colleagues, professionals, workers, tenants, business partners, and members of the Araneta City community who contributed to what it has become today. And I share it with my professors and classmates at UP, my Upsilon brothers, and all those whose friendship, guidance, and trust have accompanied me throughout my journey.

Progress cannot be measured only by the height of our buildings, the size of our developments, or the strength of our institutions. It must also be measured by the opportunities we create, the lives we improve, and the foundations we leave for those who will follow us. Every generation inherits something from the generation before it,” Araneta said in a speech delivered during the UP Alumni Awards night.

Beyond business, Mr. Araneta has contributed significantly to civic, cultural, and educational causes. Through the J. Amado Araneta Foundation, he has supported programs in arts and culture, heritage preservation, youth development, education, and community welfare, demonstrating a longstanding commitment to social responsibility and nation-building.

“We must honor the vision of those who came before us, preserve what remains valuable, improve what can be improved. To the next generation of UP graduates and future leaders, dream boldly, but remain grounded. Pursue excellence, but always with integrity. Welcome innovation, but never lose sight of the people whom progress is meant to serve. The future will bring challenges very different from what we faced, but the principles taught by UP will remain enduring guides. Let these values shape not only what you achieve, but also why you pursue it and to whom you achieve it”, Araneta added.

The annual UPAA Alumni Awards celebrate alumni whose careers and community service epitomize the University of the Philippines’ commitment to Honor and Excellence.
